In a recent ruling, the Delhi High Court has instructed Wikipedia to take down content that allegedly defames the Indian news agency ANI. The decision came after ANI filed a legal complaint claiming that certain information on the site was misleading and damaged its reputation.
The court noted that the material in question lacked credible sources and could influence public opinion unfairly. As a result, the Wikimedia Foundation, which operates Wikipedia, has been asked to either delete or block access to the controversial content.
This case has raised fresh concerns about how user-generated platforms manage sensitive or reputation-related information. The court also underlined the need for online platforms to take extra care when publishing content about news organizations or public figures.
